He founded Standard Oil Company and became the richest man ever. Within 2 years the refinery had become the largest in Cleveland. Rockefeller then formed the Standard Oil Company. The company monopolized the oil industry by buying out rival refineries and companies. However, Standard Oil was broken up in 1911 after the Supreme Court ruled that that company violated antitrust laws.
