The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is like a big judge for the world. Part of the United Nations, it was started in 1945. The ICJ helps countries solve problems without fighting.
The ICJ is a team of 15 judges from different countries. These judges, elected to nine-year terms of office by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council, work together to make sure everyone plays by the rules. They stay in the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands.
Countries can bring their problems to the ICJ when they can't agree. The ICJ looks at the rules countries agreed upon and helps find a fair solution. This stops arguments from turning into fights.
It decides if a country did something wrong or broke a rule. These decisions are like guidebooks for countries, showing them how to act fairly in the future.
The ICJ is like a superhero for keeping peace. Instead of using force, countries can go to the ICJ to talk things out. It helps everyone play on the same team, promoting understanding and cooperation.
The ICJ is part of the UN family. It works closely with other UN groups to make sure everyone is working towards a more peaceful world. The UN supports the ICJ's efforts to make the world a fairer place.
