My original thought is that everything is centered around the 'why' for a reason. Our values are at the core of our practices, which in turn, draw the results that we encourage to come to fruition.

The Why should be @ the center of everything we do, it will help us as leaders communicate the purpose and values that drive our vision. A roadblock that comes to mind is resources.

The fact that the shape is a circle (instead of a triangle) makes sense to me. The why leads to the how which leads to the what. That cycle, or circle comes around again - the what then drives the conversation back to the why, and so on. I also like that the circle has all this space for freedom of thought.

The "Why" may seem to be the smallest circle, but in reality it is truly at the center. It's interesting to think about the roles of leaders and the outcome of student progress as circles within each other and not something linear (if- then line).

I am making strong connections to this because I was JUST in a PD yesterday (with Maura), and we were talking about this exact idea. Our beliefs / mindframes drive our behavior / our practices, which should be well thought out and deliberate, and that all drives how students achieve & progress. *Keri

I agree that our beliefs, our purpose, the reason why we are in schools drive. This will lead to what practices we use and also help us with what practices do we want to hone. When using effective practices it is important that we get those innovators on board to spread the information. In turn, that will lead to positive results with staff and students. It made me think of Kim's comments about the domino effect. -Catherine

I think it's important to see that student progress and achievement has be grounded with the "how", or through data and meaningful practices. I also like that the core is why we believe what we do, which is centered on student progress. After watching the video, it is so important to live and breathe the why in order for everyone (staff, students, parents, community) to buy into your mission. Only then will your your how and what be realized and come to life -Mikey

To add on - this idea of getting to the people who love to be first - they are the key, because I agree that if ideas are always coming from leadership, teachers may not buy in as easily as they will if it's coming from a colleague, another teacher who has tried something new and has found success. -Keri
