The monster in Beowulf is shown as a live beast that is out in the world killing people for the mere pleasure of it. However, this story may not even be about an actual beast. Behind the texts literal meaning may be a simple man that is struggling socially and feels like a monster. The picture below represents how the beast from the text was created.

By a simple mans mind.

In the story, the beast refuses to attack the throne because it is protected by god, a god that shows him no affection. This most likely indicates that the man who made the story was religiously confused and felt ignored or casted away by the god in which he believed.
