When the Industrial Revolution moved from small workshops to large factories, workers couldn't work long hours due to no light. Thomas Edison then invented to the light bulb to replace candles everyone was using. The light bulb was a big help to factories and their workers during that time. It allowed workers to work through late hours of the night to get more work done. However, it allowed many people to work different shifts than having a crowded factory with workers. Even though it helped factories produce more goods efficiently, it helped transportation. It help navigate drivers at night along with trains and underground work.
(Lighting A Revolution, n.d.)

The Industrial Revolution was introduced to new machines after the long time of handcrafts. Handcrafts were made at workers homes or in small workshops. There became many factories with many new machines. According to History.com (n.d.), it states, "Starting in the mid-18th century, innovations like the flying shuttle, the spinning jenny, the water frame and the power loom made weaving cloth and spinning yarn and thread much easier" (Industrial Revolution, 2009, para. 5). Goods were made faster and efficiently with the new technology that was being invented. The economy was growing from the demand that was request for goods. Although the economy was benefiting from this, our environment was not. Overcrowded areas suffered from pollution and dirty water. Factories were giving of Carbon dioxide which is bad for the air. The key factor was to help the economy grow at the time.

During the 1890s, groups of journalists and novelists were called Muckrakers. The Muckrakes goal was to expose corruption in big businesses and government. "Progressive reformers sought to expand the regulatory power of the federal government in order to expose corruption, eliminate unfair business practices, and improve society" (Muckrakers The age of empire, n.d., para. 3). They wanted workers to get fair treatment while working for the Industry tycoons. Muckrakers documented what they saw from inside factories to working outside. Photographs captured workers working in crowded and dangerous areas of the factory. However, they captured photos of the harsh living conditions that immigrants were in. From all the documenting Muckrakers did during some of the hardest times of all, Acts began to be in place to help improve the society.
