At first, I wasn't aware of the terms "summative assessment, "authentic assessment" "formal or formative assessment," so this lesson helped me to assess what I still need to learn. The assessments must be connected to the topic and easy to understand so that students can attain the knowledge they need. Additionally, I need to understand their strengths and weaknesses to determine the most applicable assessments for them. It's not just about the assessment itself but also about how to engage the students in the process so they don't view it as a hard task. As we close the discussion about formative and summative assessment, there are new doors of perspective that enlighten me. First, is how formative assessment helps not only the students but also the teachers to adjust their learning environment to understand a specific topic. It is also important to remember that summative assessment works hand-in-hand with formative assessment to reach higher-order learning. Then, we also discuss how we can effectively exemplify the use of formative assessments to hone the students' understanding and own their learning. I learned that a summative assessment is only given to students at the end of a learning cycle/quarter. It is important because it shows what a student has acquired and retained from all of the lessons and topics discussed. Formative and summative assessments should, in my opinion, be tailored to the individual needs of each student. Teachers should also ensure that students are taking the assessments because they have understood the material and are not only doing so to get a good grade. Teachers can use this to assess how well their style of instruction matches the way students take in knowledge.
