The story takes place in a village called Gavaldon. In this village, the townspeople are not very well off which is clear in their outfits, raggedy and tattered. There are not alot of very grandiose houses but instead humble cottages which are quite run down. The more wealthy townspeople have cleaner appearances and their houses are more kept together and not as run down as the other cottages. The village has a church which also looks more pleasant than the majority of the village. There is a small hill where one of the main character resides and unlike the brighter part of town, the hill is very dark and dull with graves all over and a ominous looking cottage at the top of the hill.

But the setting of the castles is different and contrasting to the village. The school for good is shiny and beautiful, like its straight out of a fairytale. However, the school for evil contrasts the school for good heavily with spiky towers that could kill, dark heavy storm clouds surrounding the castle and a dark murky moat.

Agatha, who thinks that love is the solution to the mystery, tries to make Tedros and Sophie fall in love by persuading him that Sophie was enrolled in the wrong school.

As issues between Sophie and Tedros escalate, a brawl between the two schools is started by Sophie.

Sophie then starts experiencing changes in her appearance and personalities which leads to an unpredictable ending.

The climax in the book is steadily built and the build up is not as obvious. The author uses small but important details to build up to the climax which gives the reader a sense of unpredictability and suspense. The author uses foreshadowing as well in parts of the story that would not make sense in a certain chapter but in another which again instills unpredictability and suspense in the reader and keeps the reader hooked.

What I personally think was good about the book is how it has a lot of plot twists and how the story is always unpredictable. I also liked how the book described certain major story events and character behaviours and appearances as it is described in such a way that really gives me a very clear idea of what the characters look like, how the setting is like and things like that which really helps when reading. I also like the unpredictability of the book as I prefer books that wont allow me to know what will happen immediately but instead constantly keeping me guessing and making theories. I also think what made the book good was the way it discussed certain topics that usually cannot be discussed in today's society such as lgbt and racism. The book highlighted those two topics really well in a way that was normalized instead of how its normally shunned upon and I think that is what made the book good.

I felt very moved by the book as it told love in many special ways and not just your usual fairy tale love endings. It showed the love of a teacher, friends, siblings, family and significant others all in one book. It showed the trials and tribulations of love and how it doesn't come as easy as other people think and personally I just think that's very beautiful. An example of this is the conversation Sophie has with Agatha before she dies. " "You’re not Evil, Sophie,” Agatha whispered, touching her decayed cheek. “You’re human." Sophie smiled weakly. “Only if I have you.” " The fact that Sophie rejected being held in the guy she thought she loved arms, she chose her best friend, and out of everyone, she knows her best friend, Agatha, knows that shes not evil, as long as they had each other. Because only Agatha truly understood Sophie, only Agatha could truly love Sophie. And I think its very moving as it shows the love between two best friends. (something i wish i had)
