Chapter 15: Standing in the Phone Box (pp. 45 - 46)
1. Who do the children ring and where does that person live? 
The children rang their dad they heard “dad’s voice”. Their dad lived in Victoria “dial the number- STD code for Victoria”. 

2. What is the children’s attitude to these phone calls. 
The children seem to have mixed emotions about calling their dad " (Isla) (has) butterflies in (her) stomach" implies that the children were nervous about if their dad was going to pick up the phone. We get this impression that it makes them miss him even more “counting down the minutes” highlights that it is a precious time. 
"I was scared and maybe he was too" is contrasted with "time would go fast".

3. The final paragraph of the chapter ends with “Dad was gone” which literally indicates that the phone call is finished; however, what is Parrett metaphorically implying about the relationship? 
That is has broken up and is distant as “he was far away and they lived on an island now”

1. On Page 48 and 49, Parrett depicts a number of vivid settings which provide an almost cinematic streetscape of Battery Point; of these, select the most memorable and give two reasons why. 
Parrett describes Battery Point houses to be "old and solid like tombstones", and "there were never any people on the streets or in the front gardens". The strong imagery makes this description memorable and creates an isolated setting as highlighted in the quote “There were never any people anywhere”. The imagery of Isla “ trudg(ing) up the cold, worn steps and march(ing) up Kelly street” implies that Battery Point is a run-down old town suggesting that no one looks after it.

2. Identify the key symbol of danger introduced into the plot. 
The key symbol of danger would be the white van. This is emphasised by the fact it is a stereotype in society. 

3.Why is the white van a danger?
White van is a danger as “it was revving down the street towards them” this implies that the van was following them and clearly had the intention of abducting them. As well as the fact that the man in the Van was looking right at them, "Small eyes squinting" as if he scoffs at them as they escaped from him.
