The coalition includes a variety of different organizations, yet we have the same goal to prevent cancer.

My CBL project works on social equity issues and health issues with most immigrant students and parents. I chose the song “ Never Giving Up” because it reminds my clients and students to have a positive motivation to keep up their work and efforts while living in a different environment. This song is very close to my CBL field. It could help people be confident about themselves and identify whom they are becoming. There are a lot of positive signs that help people be proud of themselves. It is not easy to restart a new life in a new environment and study a new language. The contents of this song will make them feel more confident and motivated to grow in their living condition.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHkWElaDv3k

I didn't really know what song to add, but felt I often lose hope tobacco use will never die out despite how much outreach we do. I'm not sure what's the best policy for tobacco, but I keep working hard around this issue.

I chose this song about Sisyphus because I have been at lows and highs with this project for a long time. It's a reiterative rollercoaster and it takes some getting used to. I solve one problem and at least one springs out and rewards are sparse, so I just keep pushing and have to *roll* with it.

I believe our CBL projects have forced us to shine a light on the aspects of our system that are broken or neglected. This song brings the attention to how society is turned inward rather then looking beyond ourselves to help and care of others. In a way I think it is a more cheerful reminder for people to take others into consideration and allow for the acknowledgement and healing out of communities like we are with our projects. People connect with music, songs like these to connect the community.

Hey! This is Grace! :)
I chose the song Lean On Me by Bill Withers for my CBL project. I decided on this song because it stresses the importance around receiving help and being willing to accept help. We have to seek out assistance in some cases. Knowing when you need further assistance - goes with my role of highlighting campaigns that are in our community that are readily available to help those who struggle with not having food justice. You are never alone, there are always people who are more than happy to assist you.

I chose this song because this song became a significant song to fight for equality and rights for many people in his society back then. This song represented the people of colors, speaking for them, and many other things that people of color were having issues with such as oppression, pressure, injustices, and discrimination. Besides, leaving behind many unanswered questions due to the answers always blowing in the wind!
Tuan Pham

I chose this song as a theme for both of my CBL projects because we all can help one another or an organization to reach their mission goals (whether to reach the vaccination rates as a nation) or as many as food resources that we'll find near all PCC campuses. This song was created during the pandemic to remind us that we all could help one another through any difficult times. "Some look to find the answers
Others search to make a plan" really stood out for me in this theme song because some of us out there are looking for the resources that we give hands in to help and one day it will reach on both ends. There might be some hard work to get through in between but at the end, it part of love that we give to the community that we serve in. Thao Le

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXvBjCO19QY

When thinking about my CBL Project this is one of the first thing that comes to mind. OHSU doesn't specifically have an involvement with any movement but the organization definitely has it's own way of creating and encouraging diversity within the hospital setting. The song talks about how the system needs to change in order for there to be equality and justice. From structural racism to things like how we treat each other were some of the main points. OHSU has now integrated the importance of diversity in the workplace through required trainings about respect and open-mindedness. Transportation passes are available all year round and for individuals that live in more poor communities, it serves as a way to help people that choose to volunteer. For people that don't own a car due to financial reasons, this is one of the steps in the right direction. Just as the song implies, this is one of the changes that was needed.

Eric Taboada

NW Noggin is a strong advocate for merging science and art! Both listening to and playing music are excellent workouts for the brain. It can increase feelings of happiness, calmness, it can boost learning, help with memory recall and much more. There are accounts of stroke patients who lost their ability to speak and relearned through singing therapy, because singing utilizes some different areas of the brain than simply speaking. Any music you enjoy can have beneficial effects on your brain, but classical music and instrumental-only music are often given special credit for their soothing and concentration-boosting effects. This aria duet by Bach which is just one movement from a longer piece is one of my favorites, and makes me really happy.

I chose “count on me” by Bruno Mars and my CBL project has been volunteering in a food pantry at a school in a low income neighborhood. I chose this song because it is about being there for people during their time of need. It’s about friendship and letting someone know that they always have someone they can depend on. This song drives a message of unity and taking care of each other “cause that’s what friends are supposed to do”. This relates to my CBL because this is a community funded and led organization that helps children. I have always liked this song! It is very upbeat, catchy and has a sweet message. If we all took care of one another the way we should, life would be improved.
