Prior to this class, I had already been really interested in paintings. Growing up with a Visual Arts graduate for a father meant that I was introduced to the wonders of Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and Carlos Botong Francisco. Despite the introduction to these great artists, my knowledge of the subject was surface level at best. I only knew who they were and some of their most famous works. Any more than this, I had to consult Google.

I would personally love to learn more about contemporary and modern artworks. Modern art nowadays often contradict the beauty standards of the Renaissance and Baroque era. I would love to see how modern art is viewed in the artistic sense, and the simplicity with which most artworks are executed nowadays.
Similarly, I want to learn more about the Filipino artists who exemplified excellence in their fields. National Artists worthy of respect and admiration such as Juan Luna, Juan Nakpil, and Fernando Amorsolo.

The course on painting renewed my passion for art. Before this, I knew mostly about Salvador Dali, but the course widened my horizons and introduced me to more works of the Renaissance masters such as Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo Da Vinci. I was introduced to other works they had done, aside from their more famous ones such as the Mona Lisa and the School of Athens. Not only did I learn about Renaissance works, but also Baroque beauty.
Much more than these, I learned how to properly appreciate art. Prior to this module, I went around museums eyes wide and full of wonder, but never truly able to properly appreciate the beauty of these paintings. The module armed me with the proper criteria to fathom the beauty of these paintings, and a structure to order my thoughts in expressing my love for them. I learned about the elements and principles, the foundation of every painting that provided beauty. I learned about Chiaroscuro, the technique by which extreme values are juxtaposed to provide drama; and I learned about the linear and aerial perspective that Leonardo Da Vinci invented.
