At Life House they work with homeless and at risk youth from age 14 through 24 in the Duluth area. The assist the youth with basic needs, stabilization, education,

Often times the staff at Life House are some of the only safe and positive adults in the youths' lives. When they feel comfortable and safe enough to share their stories, the staff never takes it lightly. Being that they do hear difficult things on a daily basis, they talk a lot about self care. They're better at their jobs when they feel physically and mentally healthy. This is certainly not the norm or expectation. Because they work with youth, specifically young people who have experienced significant trauma, finding success takes time, and on many occasions they don't see the immediate results of work." Eric tries to explain it as kind of a parent-child relationship. Parents try to instill values and lessons that don't just take hold overnight.  These things take time to develop, and as people mature into adulthood they hopefully master the basics. They try to set good examples and model how positive and responsible adults handle different situations and view conflicts and mistakes as "teachable moments".
