The thing that was stopping her from her dream was that she couldn’t afford it financially, she didn’t have the money. 

The quote in “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, “We ain’t no business people, Ruth. We just plain working folks”.  Although they have their moral differences, Mama still supports Beneatha's dream of becoming a doctor. Because of her selfless attitude towards money, she is willing to use some of the money to be, "put away for Beantha and her schoolin' "
