         <title>                                                     Need for Change</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We are currently preparing students for jobs that no longer exist.  "Six million factory jobs over the past dozen years are gone and they are not coming back" (Crockett, Jukes, &amp; Churches,  p 15).   Automation has made many of our factory jobs obsolete.   Many of the skills we teach in school have also become obsolete, but we have not changed the way we teach yet<br>According to Thomas Friedman in 2007 we reached an inflection point. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtyuzW5Llnk">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtyuzW5Llnk</a>  (Friedman, 2007)  Our world had drastically changed, but our schools have not kept pace.    We must prepare our students with 21st century learning/21st century fluences to prepare them of the jobs of today and tomorrow.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Digital natives - are our students, who have been connected all their lives.  Their brains are connected differently.  Often willing to take more risks and can develop mature critical thinking skills.<br><br>"Teens spend up to 9 hours a day using media"  CNN reported (Wallace, 2015).  This has huge implications for teaching teens.<br><br>Digital immigrants  - are a major of our teachers.  The were born before the internet  and have adapted to it.<br><br>Great news -  intelligence is not fixed  new networks can be formed with use.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Old habits are hard to break.  People get stuck in their ways and prefer the tried and true method.  This is especially true for schools.  We must let go of the old process of educating students, re-evaluate it, and improve upon it to meet the current and future needs of our students.<br><br>                                             Unlearn the Way We Teach </div><ul><li>Unlearn teacher centered classrooms: relearn student centered classrooms </li><li>Unlearn teachers as disseminators of knowledge: relearn to teacher as facilitators </li><li>Unlearn teaching routine cognitive tasks many of which will become automated: relearn teaching higher order thinking and creativity</li><li>Unlearn teaching with only summative assessment: relearn teaching with diagnostic, formative and summative assessments</li><li>Unlearn students working individual  in rows; relearn teaching students to work collaboratively</li><li>Unlearn teaching memorization of common facts and processes; relearn how to teach critical thinking.</li><li>Unlearn how to teach repetitive work; relearn how to teach digitally.</li><li>Unlearn how to teach with multiple choice questions; relearn how to teach with open ended questions</li><li>Unlearn how to teach  only a process; relearn how to make lesson engaging and relevant to students</li></ul>]]></description>
