Reflection on Lunch Time Experience:

My lunchtime experience was quite eventful. At the start, I felt a bit annoyed since the corridors were quite cramped. Once I settled down to eat, I was driven outside by staff, so I was forced to eat outside in an uncomfortable posture(since the benches and the ground were quite dirty), which caused quite some inconveniences.

After finishing my sandwich, I still had some time to spare before heading back to work, so I decided to head out to the learning hub to finish some of my schoolwork.

Step 2: Interview Questions for Partner:

Can you tell me more about how you felt at the start of your lunchtime experience?

What were some key events or non-events that stood out to you during lunch?

How did you cope with any unexpected challenges that arose during your lunch break?

Did you have any specific needs or preferences regarding your lunchtime routine?

Step 3: Empathy Map:

Feelings:

Annoyed feeling due to cramped corridor

Discomfort at having to eat outside

Relief upon finishing lunch quickly and still having spare time

Needs:

Need for a more spacious corridor.

Need for an indoor place to eat lunch that's comfortable and quiet.

Need for a stress-free environment during lunch break

Constraints:

Space constraints when going to the locker.

Time constraints during lunch break

Limited spots for eating lunch.

Solution:

It's time to transform the lunchtime experience for our students into something truly exceptional. By designating specific areas within the school, such as the cafeteria or outdoor spaces, we can create environments that foster calmness and peace. We can choose from six different categories: environment, social enterprise, learning, health and wellbeing, community development, and enterprise. After presenting some of my ideas to the class, we started exploring solutions for these selected problems. It’s remarkable how many problems exist in the world. Despite this, the world continues to function. This exercise of thinking and generating ideas could prove useful in the future if I ever need to address a real-world problem.

Look at the attached document where we mapped out different ideas, weighing their pros and cons to ensure we chose a viable and impactful problem to solve. After considerations of our market size potential, our group chose the Anti-Pickpocketing Chain as our idea for refinement. Our design involves a silicon clip that securely attaches to the bottom of pants without damaging pockets. Additionally, we incorporated a charger head attachment for phones. The product, aptly named “pocketsafe,” detects pickpocketing attempts by tugging on the pants. To disconnect it, users can hold a button and verify their fingerprint. As we prepare for an upcoming expo, we’re also developing an accompanying app for setup.

This week, I started on exploring new ideas to enhance our understanding of our project’s direction. Collaborating with my team, we deliberated on how best to address specific challenges. As a result, we decided to create a 3D model to visualize our product effectively. Throughout the week, we began designing based on the attached sketch, with plans to expand and refine the model over the long term. Reflecting on our time management, we recognized room for improvement. Our B+ grade reinforced the need to focus and plan strategically, ensuring we achieve our goals.

Participating in the Action Project course has been a profound and enlightening journey, equipping me with vital skills and insights that will be instrumental in my future endeavors. Among the most significant takeaways have been the development of problem-solving abilities, design thinking, and a deeper grasp of the 4Cs: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. These competencies will enhance my e-portfolio content, allowing me to reflect more deeply on my learning experiences and continuously improve—an essential skill for everyday life.

Key Skills Developed

Throughout the course, I've improved my problem-solving skills, learning to dissect challenges into manageable components and address each systematically. Design thinking, a central theme of the course, has transformed my approach to innovation, emphasizing the importance of understanding users' needs and crafting solutions tailored to those needs.

Understanding of the 4Cs

Communication emerged as a critical skill. Initially, articulating my ideas was a challenge. However, through various presentations and group interactions, I've become more effective and confident in expressing my thoughts. This progress has not only improved my presentations but also my ability to work collaboratively with others.

Collaboration was another area of significant growth. Working in diverse teams taught me the value of different perspectives and the importance of active listening. I learned to manage conflicts, delegate tasks efficiently, and support my teammates, enhancing my empathy and teamwork skills.

The course truly enhanced my Creativity by encouraging meto think beyond conventional solutions. This freedom to innovate led to the development of unique ideas and creative problem-solving techniques that I can now apply in various aspects of my life.

Critical thinking proved to be the most challenging skill to develop. I learned to scrutinize assumptions, analyze data critically, and make informed decisions. This analytical mindset has made me more reflective and thoughtful in both academic and everyday situations.

Application of Skills in Future Endeavors

The skills and knowledge gained from the Action Project course are applicable in numerous areas of my life. The design thinking framework, for instance, can be used to tackle complex problems in any field, while enhanced communication skills will improve my interactions with others.

Overcoming Challenges

Managing time effectively was a significant challenge. Juggling multiple tasks and deadlines required strong organizational skills, which I initially struggled with. By prioritizing tasks and creating a structured schedule, I overcame this hurdle. This experience highlighted my resilience and adaptability, strengths I hadn’t fully recognized before.

Personal Development

This course has been a journey of self-discovery. I have realized that I am more capable and resourceful than I initially thought. My ability to persevere through difficulties and stay focused on my goals has been reaffirmed. Additionally, I've learned to leverage my strengths, such as creativity and collaboration, while working on areas that need improvement, like time management and critical thinking.

Reflecting on our expo experience, we needed to prepare posters, brochures, business cards, slides, presentations, and pitches. We focused on showcasing our 3D model and app features, but encountered challenges:

Posters: Our posters were too wordy and had small fonts. Next time, creating two separate posters with clearer information would be beneficial.

Brochures: Similarly, our brochures were too detailed. Streamlining the content would improve their effectiveness.

Printing Issues: Coordination and backup plans for printing would prevent issues like running out of printing credit.

Despite these challenges, our presentations to guests and teachers were well-received. With better preparation, we could have made an even stronger impact. This experience underscored the importance of preparation and adaptability, lessons I will carry forward in all my future projects.
