The ofrenda also has the deceased’s favorite food on it as well. Cempasúchil flowers have been offered to the dead for centuries. The flower lights the path for the souls of the deceased as they return to rejoin their families on November second. Just like how the sun provides light during the day, the cempasúchil illuminates the night.
