4. The mental strain of being stranded on an island increases throughout the story.  The climate, hot and humid, adds a natural enemy. The overall tone is fearful and worried.
5. One woman, Sandy (ironic), is trying to survive until she can be rescued.
6. Sandy is in conflict with nature and herself.  She is trying to physically survive while her inner self struggles with loneliness, fear and worry.
