Our students all have different steps towards accomplishing their future goals and ACTS wants to see them thrive along the way. The transition from high schoolers to adulthood is a very scary thought and not an easy process, but we want to help with those steps along the way to greatness. We also have classes to teach students about credit, resumes and more. Our main goal is to have our students learn through internships during school (two times a week, have an interest/passion, get a mentor and being in the field). We encourage presentations and projects that benefit the student and it allows teachers, peers and families to see what the student is learning and the academic growth throughout school. ACTS wants to have each student in an internship throughout the time attending here( can change internships as well). The after school subjects are Music, Art, Theatre( shared building and encouraged to ask for an internship). We also have a separate shared building for after school subjects for Robotics, Cosmetology and Wood Works (encourage students to ask for internships). During holidays we encourage students/ families to come to the high school and volunteer, by passing out food and clothes to our community and students who are less fortunate. On Earth day our whole school goes around the school, community and beaches and picks up trash to help make our city/area a cleaner place. Two times a week we host events for the community/students that need employment( in our entrepreneurship building), by helping with resumes and whatever we can possibility provide. We hire a few hair dressers/barbers (in our cosmetology building), if the community/students can't afford to get their hair done for employement. There will be textbooks/books for certain subjects but students will be using laptops for things such as research, presentations and much more( they can bring the laptops home). Our goal is to try to not waste as much paper as possible. Students need to learn responsibly when provided the trust and independent learning the staff/school is giving each student. Students will have some classwork, quizzes/test and lessons online. There shouldn't be no reason why students have missed assignments do to it being online. I went to a high school that influenced my ideal school, due to the opportunities they wanted us to have. I was grateful that I was able to have so many learning opportunities and had an amazing support system. I think every school should have real world learning to help them become prepared for life, careers and make them responsible individuals. Students should be engaged/ interested in their academic journey. By making learning challenging, fun, interactive and something they want to learn about. We all are different and learn differently. During this course it has helped me figure out what direction I want to pursue. My passion/ goal is to want to help students/kids with their stresses, issues, behaviors, disorders that affect them and their families. This course has been fun and given me opportunities to hear from educators, advocates and peers. They have been very educational/ inspiring throughout this course as well. I think my job as a RBT has helped guide me in the path I want to follow, its given me opportunities to work with disabilities, behavioral issues and schools.
