Usually, when Holden meets anybody, he considers them a "phony". But when meeting the nuns, he almost feels sympathy towards them and describes them as kind and someone who doesn't conform themselves into stereotypical followers of a religion. These nuns, also gave Holden what  he had been craving, a conversation with someone and maybe to feel just a little less alone.
