At first, they believe that the monkey's paw is just superstitious nonsense, and have no real motivation for using it, other than to prove the soldier wrong. When it actually works and their son dies, Mrs. White is motivated to use the paw by the fact that she could bring her son back. She does not care what the price might be, she is willing to do anything. Her husband, however, sees things differently, and thinks that if his wife tries to bring their son back, he will return as a zombie. He thinks it would be better for them to get rid of the monkey's paw and never use it again. I would also tell them that when his son dies as a result of his wish, it shows that he is a bit of a coward, because even when his wife was willing to wish their son back to life no matter what he looked like, he could not stand the thought of it. I also think it was wise of him though, because you should not tamper with death.
