If someone is confused, they might try to pursue a flawed solution. How do you correct them, and in what order do you do it?

I think this is key to ensuring the student gets the best help possible... working through not just giving answers you think are right but understanding were they are struggling and
knowing your limits and allowing for others to provide the guidance/help you cannot.

Looking at strategies for Kinesthetic (senses, practical, examples, trial and error)... it says I will remember the "real" things that happened... so going through a process, such as how the heart pumps blood using a diagram or model... watching a video showing the flow... then trying it, getting it wrong and going through where it was wrong and understand why.

My preference ended up being multi-modal with the highest was kinesthetic being 4 above any other category, and the rest around the 6 range. I do feel practicing and doing examples helps me a lot but I found it interesting the variety of techniques that I considered useful for anyone situation.

I think a strategy that would work well would be to have examples in my notes or summaries so I can look back on an example that I’ve seen or has been finished and use the same process for similar questions.

I am able to learn effectively using input from any one mode (no associated preference). My approach to learning involves a complex process which integrates all learning modes in the way that I engage with the material, explore, and contextualise it, as well as the way that I practice and reproduce it (output). So information can enter from any mode, and is converted into all modes before output. The most important aspect for me is to Synthesise all modes.

I expected visual and aural to be up there, and read/write to be my weakest. I think that learning through video (visual + aural) is most effective for me, but read/write can be effective in summarizing concepts too. Kinesthetic is more of a per-situation for me - examples and real-world applications of a concept may be required to fully grasp certain topics.

It's definitely better to give the student the tools to solve their problems rather than providing the answer each time. I was familiar with the 4Rs prior to this module, but the Me2You method provided me with new insight into how to better help my peers be more independent.

The hardest thing for me when pressed for time will be to resist the desire to speed up the session and 'teach' so I will have to stay strong and 'play tennis!' It is more important that they become confident in the process of self-learning then the specific query they have.

You are to help them to find the solution (not give the solution) for the specific problem they have and leave them with the ability to solve future problems with confidence.

Multimodal. Unsurprisingly, I like to learn everything possible.

Given the mixed usefulness of VARK, I would encourage people to try to keep looking at a challenging concept in different ways until something clicks. I think a preferred learning style has less of an effect than that some concepts are better understood in different ways, and you'll learn more comprehensively by varying your approach.

It seems as through the primary focus of this module was to highlight the importance of collaborative learning. I never appreciated the importance of my peers/fellow students in the learning process. I know have a whole new appreciation for the importance of tutorial/workshop sessions as a opposed to lectures.

The CLS also provided really helpful advice on how to breakdown a problem and guide a student through the learning process. I used to actually find the whole "open ended questions" from demonstrators/PLF really annoying in 1st year, but know have a whole new appreciation for how these seemingly annoying questions really aided my learning.

The practice of first leading the conversation in recognise and response phase and then letting students take over in recreate and realise phase is a great strategy. I my self have experience it, when approaching someone students are always nervous and then as the conversation progress students feel more comfortable and become open to others.

Also the take home gift is great as it makes the student feel valued to receive a gift which they later take seriously to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Often times when helping others I would maybe give them some final tips or other resources they can use but it wasn't something that I was consciously aware that I was doing. From my understanding, Me2You is just another way of rephrasing the Gradual Release of Responsibility model, or scaffolding. I do think the Recreate and Realise sections may overlap a bit, and I'm not sure how many ways there are to recreate mathematical knowledge, other than talking about them or trying an example question on paper. I will be on the STIMulate team and I think it would be difficult not to give the students the answers - at least in terms of how to solve the equations.

I was surprised that my results were so similar across all learning preferences, despite being unsure about what my dominant learning preference was. Writing practice answers/paragraphs was a method that I followed throughout the majority of high school and seemed to work well for me. I understand now that this suggested strategy worked best for me as I learn most effectively through practice and experience.

This was very much along the lines of what I expected. I am used to reading information off of a whiteboard/textbook, and I memorise formulas and speeches by writing them down and repeated them until they are engrained in my head. I learn well from YouTube videos as well, which often rely on fancy graphics and visuals to get their point across, which explains my decent visual score. As far as solving problems goes, I learn best by actually solving the problem (whether that is practical or theoretical), and then using that experience to then go on and solve future problems.

I've felt it in person: the reluctance of someone you're trying to help out to take their own control. I think using that style of open questioning, encouragement and listening will be extremely helpful in giving people better outcomes, though it's something I'll have to actively work towards doing. Very tempting to "give up" and just give them the answer, especially since it's also pretty easy to get just as tired as the person you're assisting.

Important to guide the learner to learn and draw conclusions rather than telling them how to do something or what to do. As a facilitator your main role is recognising and responding to gaps in the persons knowledge and things that they need to work on and then guiding them to achieve this.

Personally, I actively, strongly enjoy trial and error, with the occasional diagram if I'm feeling lost. Once I have some progress, I like to pretend I'm done and figure out where my incomplete knowledge fails to better focus my efforts.

I would encourage people to try evaluating their incomplete work, and analyse its shortcomings to figure out what works and what doesn't - the more precise their analysis is, the more apparent their precise error becomes (making the correct solution obvious).

Failure is one of the most effective ways to learn.

I like how each step encourages the student to answer and give feedback. It is about their participation in the end and not you doing the work for them. I use similar techniques when training people in my work place, or if I have ever helped others with their understanding of topics. It is good to compartmentalise the different stages though. Pretty expected considering how I've performed in academic and professional environments. I'm quite flexible , hence I can make use of a multimodal style of learning. I will employ the "read/write" strategy if need be , but it is true that I usually prefer the other methods as I find them more engaging.

I have learnt about the 4Rs and especially Me2U. I have seen how important it is for the student to take responsibility rather than just giving them the answers. If you just give them the answers, it may help them now but not in the long run.

I found that I am a strong kinesthetic learner with a minor read/write learning style. I would like to try encouraging people to come up with their own examples in learning and then share my own examples.

I have learnt that the 4 R's are pivotal techniques that will aid you in helping the students. Moreover, there should be a balanced input between you and the student to ensure that they are not overwhelmed and that you are addressing all of the issues

I like having a framework to work within whilst maintaining creativity in how to encourage learning. I have also found the most important way to start is to work out what is required, read resources and relate the task to something I have done before. My way of learning might be very different to another student though so it's important to allow them to figure out what works for them while encouraging them to consider new perspectives or methods of learning.

I find it important for me to use more than one mode to learn something and get a really good understanding of concepts, especially with my course work. I was already aware that I have a preference for read/write learning but I didn't know how important aural and kinesthetic learning were for me to gain an understanding.

I think my strategies fit quite well with class delivery because I like doing the readings before class and then listening to the lecturers explanation of the same concepts so I can compare and contrast the concepts I understand either by reading them or listening to them. Rather than ending the learning experience by immediately giving the answer, it is important to move past the initial "I don't know". Overcoming this can often reveal that the student does in fact have relevant knowledge of the subject, yet may be embarrassed about not being able to apply it correctly. After this point, more effective learning can happen.

Whenever I struggle to envision a concept which has multiple factors and outcomes, I need to visually create a flow chart that is colour coded.
I get through textbook readings by envisioning them in my head to understanding better. I take my time and underline and circle specific words. This takes readings longer for me, however, I end up remembering and understanding it more.

I'm surprised that these numbers are quite high. Something I would like to become better at is listening to presenters or teachers for long periods without any written or visual information. I feel like if I'm not writing anything down it is very easy to get lost in thought (especially with new concepts), whereas text on a screen or a diagram that summarise the aural info can make it easier to remember ideas.

I guess that's just how we humans have evolved, by learning stuff practically. I usually resort to reading textbooks and online articles, taking notes (creating cheat sheets), and experimenting with all the things I have learned. However, reading/writing and experimenting are not always my go-to learning styles, like I prefer watching video when learning how to cook a new dish. So, the VARK results made it clear that my preferred learning style is MULTIMODAL.

I think the best learning approach for me is a mixture of visual, aural, reading/writing, and kinaesthetic methods. I learn by watching or reading contents and then listening to an expert in the field. Likewise, discussing with likeminded people like students and volunteers is super helpful because everyone has a different chunk of the puzzle and by having a chat with different people, you will get a bit of the puzzle every time.
