England:<br>Several reasons people came to America:&nbsp;<br>+ Small farmers`were forced out, small island &amp; no vast amount of land because they will already be taken.&nbsp;<br>+ Overpopulated &amp; Old and lots of Unemployment.<br>+ Once someone dies, the elder son inherit the land, so the daughter or middle child will be sent to America because the eldest must look after the land.<br>+ The government/Jolly rich white dudes pays for boat, pays for your food, and send you to America for you to find something worth a lot, so they can sell and get that money.<br>+ Peace with Spain:<br>+ Adventure:<br><br>II. Spain:<br>3 G's: God, Glory, Gold.<br>God : Spread Christianity.&nbsp;<br>Gold: Primary goal for Spain.<br>Glory: Power &amp; Respect of spain as a world player/ Global Reputation / Growth of the Empire.<br>III. French Dutch:<br>English &amp; Spanish permanently settled for growing their empire.<br>Building of roads, houses, churches, etc. Comparing to the French Dutch who only colonized to trade, did not settlers. Trading relationship (Fur trade)<br><br><br>Mercantilism : belief in the benefits of profitable trading. Commercialism.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I. Georgia:<br> + James Oglethorpe founded Georgia.<br>+ Most people who lived here are criminals and deters<br>serves as a buffer between lucrative plantation fields of south Carolina and the Spanish seminal Indians. <br><br>II. South &amp; North Carolina: <br>+ Originally called the Carolinas until 1729 they split into North &amp; South Carolina. <br>+ Grow Cotton, Tobacco, Rice&amp;Indigo<br>+ Poor whites lived in the Carolinas. Also, religious dissenters ( people who flee from places without religious freedom ). <br><br>Roanaoke Island:<br>The first attempt to settle,<br>Sir Walter Raleigh, where he brought other boats of white men &amp; they settled. Immediately went back to england and get more materials. He did not come back after 2 years, and Croatian was carved into a tree entrance &amp; he found everyone either evacuated, moved inland, or starvation.<br>+ The North Carolina experience failed.<br><br>Jamestown Virginia:<br>+ 20 years later (1607): A Virginia company (joint stock) , funded by King James.<br><br>II. Colonial Slavery:<br>- 50 million Africans died/ became slaves in the 17th &amp; 18th century.<br>- 20&amp; to 1/3 of slaves died during the 'Middle Passage'<br>- Big slave boats going from Africa to the Caribbean islands, and boat from Cuba to Haiti, make it over the trip and put on another boat and put on a block &amp; rich white men buy them.<br><br>Slave Codes:<br>Slave Codes are a vast county by county, state by state, system of rules that guide the every day lives of slaves.<br>- A code of behavior, what you can &amp; cant do and who you can &amp; cant talk to.<br><br>D. Stono Rebellion<br>- Largest slave revolt in history, around 250 slave revolts in history but this was the largest.<br>- Headed for the Florida Georgia line, Spanish Florida wasn't apart of america so they had no say in what would happen to them.<br>- After this slave revolt, slave owners restricted slaves even more &amp; treated them worse. *They just wont learn, will they?*<br><br>Tide water aristocracy- Wealthy white families that owned large plantations in the Chesapeake bay.<br><br>Small farmers, biggest part of socieety, not always peaceful but more cooperative.<br><br>Landless whites in North Carolina.<br><br>Indentured servants &amp; black slaves: both at the bottom to rich people to do bidding. <br>Nathaniel's rebellion:<br> burnt down Jamestown, indentured servants &amp; black slaves. <br>*Look at Southern Society*<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
