Several reasons people came to America: 
+ Small farmers`were forced out, small island & no vast amount of land because they will already be taken. 
+ Overpopulated & Old and lots of Unemployment.
+ Once someone dies, the elder son inherit the land, so the daughter or middle child will be sent to America because the eldest must look after the land.
+ The government/Jolly rich white dudes pays for boat, pays for your food, and send you to America for you to find something worth a lot, so they can sell and get that money.

God : Spread Christianity. 
Gold: Primary goal for Spain.
Glory: Power & Respect of spain as a world player/ Global Reputation / Growth of the Empire.
III. French Dutch:
English & Spanish permanently settled for growing their empire.

+ The North Carolina experience failed.

Jamestown Virginia:
+ 20 years later (1607): A Virginia company (joint stock) , funded by King James.

II. Colonial Slavery:
- 50 million Africans died/ became slaves in the 17th & 18th century.
- 20& to 1/3 of slaves died during the 'Middle Passage'
- Big slave boats going from Africa to the Caribbean islands, and boat from Cuba to Haiti, make it over the trip and put on another boat and put on a block & rich white men buy them.

Slave Codes:
Slave Codes are a vast county by county, state by state, system of rules that guide the every day lives of slaves.
- A code of behavior, what you can & cant do and who you can & cant talk to.

D. Stono Rebellion
- Largest slave revolt in history, around 250 slave revolts in history but this was the largest.
- Headed for the Florida Georgia line, Spanish Florida wasn't apart of america so they had no say in what would happen to them.
- After this slave revolt, slave owners restricted slaves even more & treated them worse. *They just wont learn, will they?*

Tide water aristocracy- Wealthy white families that owned large plantations in the Chesapeake bay.

Small farmers, biggest part of socieety, not always peaceful but more cooperative.

Landless whites in North Carolina.

Indentured servants & black slaves: both at the bottom to rich people to do bidding. 
Nathaniel's rebellion:
 burnt down Jamestown, indentured servants & black slaves.
