Stores with German signs began popping up, and foods like sausages, hamburgers and sauerkraut became more normalized. Irish found solace within the Catholic community and soon dominated the institution, along with Italians. Native New-Yorkers felt like foreign culture was taking over their city, and neighborhoods were becoming either German, Irish and Italian.
