1. Educate patient on the disease process; signs and symptoms and when to notify the healthcare provider; and stress the importance of follow-up care on a regular basis to manage symptoms and slow progression.
2. Implement measures to assist patient to manage visual limitations such as reducing clutter, arranging furniture out of travel path; turning head to view subjects; providing adequate lighting.
3. Educate the patient on relaxation therapies (massages, breathing exercises, exercise, etc..) to decrease anxiety. Give accurate information and allow the patient to ask questions. Allowing the patient to express their feelings can help them deal with the reality of the situation. 1. Educate the pt about importance of adequate lighting, having floors clear of objects, and placing the bed in lowest position. Educate the patient not to ambulate without assistance.
2. Educate the patient about the disease and different ways to adjust to the new way of life. Discuss medication options if necessary. 
3. Provide patient with large print text papers, make sure the room has sufficient lighting and place belongings frequently needed in clear view. Stand in field of vision that is appropriate for the patient.

1. Educate about the disease process and explain to patient and/or caregiver that the loss of hearing will not be permanent and will be treated with the appropriate medication regimen.  Also, encourage the use assistive devices, such as closed-caption TV, and speak in a clear and loud voice to maximize understanding. 

2.  Assess the client's perception of pain including intensity using a numbered scale from 0 to 10, location, quality, and document each finding. This will allow the patient and their healthcare team to evaluate the progress of the perceived pain. Assisting the pt to a sitting or semisitting position helps to keep increased pressure off the tympanic membrane which decreases pain for the pt. Recommend OTC medications like acetaminophen/ ibuprofen (Motrin) to help aid in the pain

3. Educate the patient about prevention of swimmers ear by keeping the ears dry, utilizing bathing caps, ear plugs, and drying ears thoroughly after swimming or showering.
