His research is heavily informed by his on experience as a bilingual student, whil also emphasizing translanguaging (the process of using both languages simultaneously). Dr. Medina's work is important to me because in the English language learning space, many educators shy away from using the L1 (native language) to inform the L2 (English, or the learned language). I beleive that using L1 ONLY benefits the student and in the end creates a true bilingual.
