Setting: Alika's house

Plot:

Alika looks at her mom's photograph. Then, she likes to have short hair as similar as her mom. Then, she tries to cut her own hair using a scissor. Unfortunately, she cuts her hair too short and has bad-looking. She feels sad and guilty. She thinks she might have long hair again without being recognized by her mom, elder sister, or her father. So, she goes to the kitchen and find some "things" that she can put on her head. She tries to put noodles, green onions, long beans, stinky beans, water spinach, and corn silk on her head but she finds out that those things cannot help her much to get a beautiful hair as she had previously. Thus, she avoids anyone by hiding behind the curtain. Yet, Alika's elder sister finds her and so does her mom. Alika's mom then listens carefully to Alika's story about how sad she is because of her haircut. Afterwards, Alika's mom thinks about how to make her daughter happy again so she puts a headband on Alika. Alika is so happy about her new look using a headband.  

Conflict: Alika wants her long hair back as she cuts it too short. She is afraid if anyone looks at her hair and gets angry with what she does to her hair.   

Resolution: Alika's mom puts a headband on Alika.

Moral values: Doing mistakes is unavoidable, but how you learn from your mistakes and move on is something precious.      

Setting: Alika’s house

 

Plot: Alika found a picture of her mom with a short hair. She wanted the same thing. Alika took the scissors and cut her own hair. It was disaster. The hair was too short.

 

Conflict: She tried to make her hair look long again by putting noodles, green onions, long beans, stinky beans, water spinach, corn silks, but it didn’t work. She tried to hide behind the curtain because she didn’t want to meet anyone. Her big sister found her though.

 

Resolution: Mom put a headband on Alika and she loved it.

Moral Values: Whenever we come across a challenge or a puzzling situation, look at the other side.  You will be surprised to see a different approaches to solve the problem.

plot       : alika found a photo, she had a short hair at the time, 

conflict : she cut her hair but he didn’t like the way she looks with new hair. Then she pit many vegetables on her hair, but still looks weird

resolution          : mom  put a headband on alika’s hair, and finally she happy with that

illustrations : writer illustrate it with interesting picture that really supported the story

Alika’s sister is a playful girl and love her sister so much

Mom does like ordinary mom in common, always know the best for her children

Setting: Alika’s home (study room, kitchen, living room)

Plot: Alika’s curiosity makes herself as an explorer. She wanted to become her mother (her idol) by changing her look, just like mom. Using a toy scissor, become a professional hairdresser (exploring her ability without any prior knowledge, at least she knows the function of scissor). She felt so insecure after looking at herself in front of mirror (she realized that her new hair was different from her mom, she was afraid, may be her mom will get upset) and began to pop up as a creative person under so much pressure. She tried to solve problem using different things available in the kitchen, though she gave up in the end. Fathoming her failing, hiding was the best choice. Suddenly her sister came up ( I don’t really get her reaction, I presume she was surprised and telling her mom, even entire family). Not long, mom came and everything was back to normal by giving out Alika a headband.

I noticed Alika’s mixed feelings which I ponder as an internal conflict. Apart from it, there was no conflict appear. Alika’s sister and mom responses were usual as everybody does in real life. 

Hand in a headband to Alika considered as a resolution according to the story. I may have different opinion, it would be lovely if mom asking about the reason why Alika cut her hair (of course after putting the headband on Alika’s head).

1.     As a reader (a mom), I noticed that Alika is very smart. Sometimes, mom fails to recall that children are amazing. By looking at the pictures, those are reminder for us to be more patient and appreciate what children do.

2.     For children, may be, a toy scissor does give a huge lesson. It burst upon the children unexpectedly. Just be careful playing with scissor.

Setting             : A village

 

Plot                 : A beautiful rainbow-coloured bird was found and raised by an old man called Grandpa Park. The bird was then named “Beauty”, and the villagers loved him. One day, the village was hit by a terrible fire. Beauty bravely helped several children trapped in the fire to escape and then tiredly returned to save Grandpa Park despite the smoke and flames burning his feathers. After that, the villagers tended to Beauty until he was healthy, and he was given a new name, "Brave".

 

Conflict           : 1. Beauty saw Grandpa Park trapped in the fire while escaping with a few children.

2. With the loss of his beautiful rainbow-coloured feathers, Beauty was worried that the villagers would no longer love him.

 

Resolution       : 1. Despite the villagers’ pleas not to return to the village and his damaged feathers, Beauty flew back into the flames to save Grandpa Prak.

                                      2. The villagers still loved him and were very grateful towards Beauty. They tended to him carefully until he was healthy, and gave him a red scarf and new name, “Brave”.

Moral value     : 1. Children are to be prioritised for rescue if an accident or disaster should occur.

Setting : The Village

Color : The feathers are rainbow but it has changes into grey,red, green, orange, yellow, white.

Plot  : 
Grandpa Prak found beautiful rainbow-colored egg near the shore. Then, he decided to take a care and finally it hatched into a beautiful bird that had rainbow feathers. Villagers gave nickname “Beauty” and the bird was loved by the villagers. However, Beauty Bird gained new nickname as “ “Brave Beauty” since the bird lost rainbow color of feathers when the bird has struggled to help group of children and Grandpa Prak who were trapped by the flame.  

Conflict : 
It happens when dry season is coming to the village where the Bird is living since he was born. He insists to help his master, Grandpa Prak, who is trapped on a fire, even though his rainbow wings are damaged. He is afraid that the villagers will not love him anymore because of his losing wings. 

Resolution :
All the villagers take care of him until his wings are strong again and the villagers still love him even though he loses his rainbow wings, and calls him A Brave Bird, not A Rainbow Bird anymore.

Backgrounds : 
It is mostly broken white and soft blue. It's nice and mostly one soft color so that the illustration of the story can be cleared enough to tell the whole story without reading sentences. 

Moral Values :
We should appreciate and return the favor to the ones who has helped us.  
The beauty of appearance is only gift but the kindness will be remembered forever even after death. 

Alika put noodles, green onions, long beans, stinky beans, water spinach, and corn silk on her head, but there was nothing like her old hair. She did not want anyone to find her mess, but her sister saw her toes peering out. Alika got surprised and finally her mom gave her a headband and she liked it!

Conflict : Conflict occurs when Alika realized that her haircut was uneven and too short. She was looking for food ingredients in the kitchen that could replace her previous hair. Alika hid behind the curtain

Resolution:  Mother gave a beautiful headband to her and she loved it.

She uses noodles, green onion, long beans, stinky beans, water spinach, and corn silk, but nothing looks good and fit on her hair. Then, she hides behind the curtain since she doesn’t want anyone sees her hair.

Resolution : Alika’s mother and sister find her is hiding behind the curtain. Then Alika’s mother gives a headband to Alika’s hair, and she likes it.

2. To avoid the carelessness, we need to think twice about the consequence before we do something.
