We (Kellsey Dunn, Justin Garza, & Tobin Rote) find this piece intriguing because it is colorful and draws the eye to the texture and pattern --causes the brain to try to make sense of the pattern (possibly flowers or peacock feathers) also, the #5 makes us think it is part of a set.

Why we find this piece appealing:
We love this piece because it's bright, large, and there's nothing else like it in San Antonio. 

 F.I.S.H lights up at night and entertains the people of San Antonio. It's a spectacular piece to look at during the day and night. We believe the sculpture is for entertainment purposes.

Interesting: The bright colors attracted our attention to the piece. The texture is unusual and would be good to see in person. The purpose is to create a fun environment for children while they play.

Why is it appealing:
Very visually appealing and contains colored lighting. The inspiration came from paper folding and pop-up books and this can be seen in the work itself.

Purpose:
This sculpture displays and addresses literary themes and nature and wilderness in the local area.
 

 

Description:
The Juan O'Gorman mosaic mural commissioned for the 1968 World's Fair, known as HemisFair, is located on the exterior facade of the Lila Cockrell Theater. The mural is titled "Confluence of Civilizations in the Americas" and it was one of three murals that still remain installed at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. 
The mural illustrates the theme of HemisFair and includes imagery such as Adam & Eve, European immigration to the United States and Mexico, and indigenous cultures of the Mesoamerican civilization.
