Entrepreneurship in the African American community has always been a struggle. The struggle consists of a myriad of factors that can contribute to the lack of success for African American people, specifically women. For decades African Americans have resided at the bottom of the totem pole, leaving them at a higher disadvantage than other races. The problem become massive when you incorporate minimal resources, generational barriers, lack of education and the hierarchy systems that prevent African American people from advancing. “the relative lack of success of black owned businesses in the United States is a major concern among policy makers. The 3 to 1 ratio of white to black self- employment rates noted has remained roughly constant over the past 90 years ( Farlie and Meyer 2000). 

 Research is vital to determine the specific set backs that prevent African Americans from advancing and becoming top players in the game of entrepreneurship. Not only is it imperative to be self employed but to also acquire tools that will help the business expand and grow. Early researchers emphasized the role that past inexperience due to those above factors, creates the low rates  of business ownership among blacks.

We first came up with what we thought was a major issue in the African American community when it comes to entrepreneurship. Then we broke down that problem and came up with four factors that contribute to this problem. We then each found some great research were accurate and helped backup everything we mentioned in Step 1.  My personal focus was the generational barriers that African Americans face that can affect the direction of their lives. For example teen pregnancies, growing up in areas with little to no resources, little family support is many examples of generational barriers. Lastly, we came up with an solution, and how all of our different subjects come together and make one interdisciplinary. We are fully aware that we’re taking on something that is very broad and controversial, but I’m 100% confident that our disciplinary subjects will bring it all together.

There can be multiple moving parts to a subject and its up to us to take those moving parts and connect them in a way that can solve issues pertaining to the things we are most passionate about. It's important to take into account the reasons and explanations as to why we feel the way we do about the subject we have chosen for our project. I find it interesting how we had different concerns i.e lack of education and justice for women , and found a way to connect these interest to better the communities we live in. It was definitely insightful to see the interests of my fellow group members and how they related to the project. Research also allowed us to dig deeper to unfold the real truths about entrepreneurship, things we never would have fathomed. Entrepreneurship in the African American community has been an issue and its up to me and my teammates to figure out how we can turn things around not only for us personally, but for our communities and generations to come as well.  I also contributed to the discussion by using my real world experience and research to help solve the issue at hand. We discussed what the problem was and ways we can stop the problem. We all have a specific focus. My focus is stereotypes of African American entrepreneurs. I found articles on how there are intentional barrier that are set in place to make it hard on African Americans. These barriers are set to exclude African Americans due to stereotypes, and possibly racism. Some of the stereotypes that I found were the same as the stereotypes placed on African Americans.
