I particularly chose it because it put words to how I really see the world. The poem says” I am an ocean are you willing to risk swimming in the deep, dark parts of me or will you stay where it is shallow.” I felt like the author was making a reference that people are oceans, we all have very ocean-like personalities, but some of us aren't willing to look or swim past the surface of another ocean because we are scared we might not like what we see if we swim past the shallow part of the water but the truth is that we are only able to see so much if we don't go past the shallow area. The same goes for ourselves if we can't get past the shallow part of ourselves we will live our whole lives not knowing the person we see in the mirror. This is one of my favorite quotes because it truly describes how today's society lives such a chaotic lifestyle to where we miss the beauty of the present moment. Many people are influenced by others to change themselves in order to fit in with what everyone else expects and admires.However, i believe that we must live in gratitude and simply to see the beauty in the little things in life and make the most of what we are given and of each and everyday. This is one of my favorite quotes because it shows that maturing is really realizing that once you acknowledge who you are and what you stand for and what you will and won't tolerate then your mindset changes and your tolerance for things that use to affect you won't affect you anymore.
