As British troops began marching through Quebec, the French empire lost St. Lawrence and subsequently New France. However, the treaty of Paris that was developed as a peace treaty did not eliminate the concept and execution of slavery. As the War of Independence was continuing in the 13 colonies, the British government offered freedom for any and all black slaves, and in return they will fight for the British empire against the rebels. This offer resulted in 100,000 slaves fighting for British. The British lost of the war still did not signify that the British will not keep the promise of freedom to all black slaves, instead out of the thousands of loyalists that migrated to Nova Scotia and new Brunswick, 3500 of them were free black slaves while 1500 were still under slavery. But the equality of opportunities between White and Black families were obviously restricted, such examples were big portion of land was given to a White families while a small portion of land was given to Black families. In terms of labor, many of the free Black individuals were forced to do farm work at 1/4 of a wage compared to a White farmer. On January 15, 1792, roughly 1200 loyalists sailed from Halifax to Sierra Leone, a land given to former slaves to escape the conditions of slavery and develop a successful community. Unfortunately, on the ships travelling to Leone, some former slaves succumbed to disease.

- Ricardo Alvear

The First Steps to Abolish Slavery, Upper Canada 1793

Lieutenant governor John Graves Simcoe develop a proclamation stating that any slave owners that had intentions to bring or sell their slaves in Upper Canada, now known as Ontario, will not be allowed to enter. However, any slaves currently in upper Canada will not be freed. This marked the first British territory to deny the arrival of new slaves. The proclamation was produced by a event involving Chloe Cooley, a slave in upper Canada that was to be sold to slave owners in America. By 1834 as the British empire fully abolished slavery, Canada became a beacon of freedom to former slaves. This resulted in a system called the Underground Railroad that free unprecedented amount of slaves from states in America that still heavily relied on slaves. Another act of kindness that was rare to discover in the horrors of slavery was commenced by Reverend William King who was a slave owner in the southern states and decided to purchase 9000 acres near Chatham in 1849 two black families live in those acres and produce their own life without fear of slavery. Mary Anne, the first female editor in North America who claimed slaves that were unable to help themselves could never be Canadians. As the American Civil War was commencing, 700 slaves from Buxton, a settlement in upper Canada, decided to fight for all North American slaves to be free. After the victory for the union in America, many slaves that were exiled in Upper Canada decided to return back to their places of uprising, and those who remained in the sentiments slowly drifted away from it to find work in cities.

- Lok Ki Rocky Wong

In 1911, as many black immigrants went to a Alberta, immigration inspectors started to be concerned about the mass population of black individuals and determine that to prevent a Black majority in Alberta, the inspectors urged Ottawa send a message to Washington DC claiming that Canada will stop letting black individual into Canada and turn them around back to America. This message of prevention managed to reach Ottawa and message was declared to Washington DC. Additionally, the IODE, Imperial Order of daughters declare, the white woman would be unsafe living with black individuals in the same community. However, as the evolution of machinery reached an booming stage, many black families move from farmland to the cities. William Hubbard, is one of rare cases of black individual succeeding in a time of racism such example was Hubbard becoming acting mayor of Toronto.

- Ricardo Alvear

As the outbreak of World War I started, Canada immediately commenced their military preparation and Ottawa's chief of staff, GW guat Caen, declared the black individuals were incompetent soldiers and equality within white soldiers and black soldiers in a Canadian military would damage the war effort. Fortunately, the protest of white officers led to black individuals being recruited as soldiers and being kept in teams that also contain black soldiers. One of the black soldiers were named William Hall from Nova Scotia, Hall fought in the Crimean War, battles of Sevastopol and ingram, and Lucknow which was a Indian Mutiny. In November 16, 1857, Lucknow, an ancient mosque that was key for captureing the city held by indians, Hall fought heavily which resulted in him earning the Victoria Cross. Another soldier was Deakin Sydney Jones from Halifax, described his experience of the war in claimed that there was one instance where a White officer discriminated against them. This was one few memories that Jones could recall. After the war, Jones claimed that white and black soldiers formed groups that performed activities together. In the 1920s, Black individuals struggled immensely to find work that was outside service work due to racism still existing.

- Gursimran Kaur
