  • 1762 participated in the invasion of portugal, became an infantry lieutenant 
  • In 1769 he became a captain and fought against the apaches.
  • In 1770, he was promoted to commandant of arms of Nueva Vizcaya and Sonora, northern provinces of New Spain.
  • In 1772 he served with the Royal Cantabria regiment, an elite Franco-Spanish unit, for three years. 
  • He was transferred to Seville in 1775, and then he participated in Alejandro O'Reilly's disastrous expedition to Algiers. He himself was severely wounded. After he was made Lieutenant colonel.

In the same year, Bernardo de Gálvez was raised to the rank of count, promoted to lieutenant-general of the army, and appointed governor and captain-general of Cuba.

    I think that if Bernardo de Galvez had not taken over the forts on the Gulf coast then the British would have won. This is because, thanks to Bernardo de Galvez, the British couldn’t attack from the south making it hard to beat an army that only has to defend from one way, strategically making the war easier for the Americans to win.
