The 14th Amendment says that states cannot make any laws that take away individual privileges or immunities of citizens. Keeping schools segregated is taking away privileges of African American students. This means that the governor cannot keep schools segregated. States have to treat everyone equally because of due process.

States cannot segregate schools. They can't stop African Americans from going to a white school. Even though schools have been segregated for a long time doesn't mean that can't change. The Governor made a promise the 9 students that they could go to Central High, but when the students tried to enter the school, they were stopped. This is against Brown v. Board of Ed.

The governor of Arkansas called the National Guard to stand in front of Central High to make sure no African Americans got into the school. The president saw what was happening and forced the National guard to leave. He had the right to do this because the president is in charge of the Army and Navy of the United States.
