After reading the article and listening to the two songs, post your thoughts on why you think (most) teens experience some form of anger, depression, anxiety, hatred of the world, etc.
After reading what others wrote, respond to a couple as well. Your response should be 5+ sentences.

I think most teens experience angst like anger, anxiety, and depression because of many things. Things like hormones, their brain changing and lots of other things can affect a teen and how they feel. How their brains are growing and changing changes how they can feel and process emotions. Hormones are also raging at this time which can really affect the way they feel. All of these things and more can affect a teen and how they feel.

i think that teens don't have people to talk to so they just keep it all in. so they deal with depression. and sometimes teens deal with things while they were young and don't get over it. so they don't know what to do and have anxiety.

Our brains are still developing so we don't know what we want or how to achieve it. For example most students do a after school sport, Most people do it so they can fit in with more people. They also do this so there brain can develop and How you interact with people.

I think that some teen have some kind of one of these anxiety, angery, deppresion or some kind of hated of the world because the way they are treated. A little kid can takes things very senstive to things and they can get very hurt by little things if said the wrong way. Another way a kid can get one of these is how they grow up, if they grew in a toxic and unclean home they could have anxiety and trust isssues.

For example Holden's brother died when he was young and his parents didn't care much for his horrible mental state and sent him off to a boarding school far away. After his parents did this to him, he thought that all people are like this and you can't trust anyone in a cruel life.

Those type of emotions could also be caused by hormones and the fact that their brains are still developing. Traumatic experiences from earlier in their lives could also cause angst. Trust issues could also cause teens to feel threatened by certain things.

For example, Holden often does things that make no sense such as laying in Ackley's. An adult might see this as a very weird response to a fight but Holden cant comprehend the fight itself.

Not a lot of teens have the same anger or anxiety but have the same feelings because I even experience anxiety and anger when i feel like no matter what I do, I felt like that it's going to fail when i try. And it doesn't help that I feel pressure from me failing my grades, and it puts me in a cycle of me thinking that i'm a failure and not put a lot of work into what i'm doing and failing again. And the anxiety that I get from me thinking that I am about to say the wrong things, (like right now) feeling that i sound 🤬 or acting like a fake person, or that i'm over doing things like right now. In TCITR, Holden doesn't like how Stradlater acts like he's gentlemen but he's actually a secret slob, or how Holden doesn't have the commitment to succeed in his classes because throughout his childhood, he developed those emotions about himself and others.

As kids grow up especially when we are teenagers, we start to see the world in a different light. We start reconsidering what we what once believed, we see the ugly and we focus on it. I think this is because of our developing brains. Then, I know for myself and others we just bottle up these emotions, and when you bottle these thoughts, and emotions up you just drown in them. You don't let anyone in, because you don't know who to trust, and you just feel lost. It's not just our brains still developing, but we are still developing. We can clearly see that with Holden. He doesn't know who he wants to be, he just knows he doesn't want to be a phony. He feels lost, he pushes people away, he doesn't trust people. He just bottles up everything, and then he doesn't know how to let it out. That's why we get moments like his fight with Stradlater, or when he broke all the glass. He doesn't how to let these feelings out appropriately, when he was younger he was never shown how to let it out appropriately. So yeah, our brains are still developing.

I personally think that teens have to deal with these different emotions because of the things they have to deal with on a daily basis. Some kids might have to go home and deal with abusive parents and maybe that makes them depressed and feel like they're alone, or maybe they are stressed with school, job or again things that go on at home. A lot of parents don't listen to their kids, so that could be a factor to it. Teens could have a hatred towards the world because of whats happened to them already. For example school, if they have a very bad experience with school they might be scared to actually go out into the world and be themselves. Again they could be depressed and feel alone. Everyone has their own feelings and everyone school be able to express that.

Some teens are surrounded by calm and nice areas and others have a troubled life and has a lot of challenges to overcome. Teens also cant handle the changes that are happening to them and their lives. Like puberty and just growing up. For example, Holden came from a rough life with his brother dying and parents not being in his life all the time.

If teens don't have a good relationship with their parents then it's possible that they have trouble making decisions. This can only lead to bad decisions that can affect their health both mentally and physically. In CITR Holden doesn't have a good relationship with his parents. This can explain Holden and his bad decisions such as lying and drug abuse.

Most teens feel alone because of things that’s going on in their life or past experience and they just don't like talking to people about their problems because you never know who to trust or you never know who could tell your business so they feel like they have to go through things alone. Also with depression you feel alone you feel like there is no one you can talk to and you just want to be alone because once again you never know who could tell your business.

I think most teens experience anger because they don't feel good enough. Teens also don't know how to overcome their problems and when they mess up they get angry. Some teens think that they aren't good at what they do and don't think they can do better, which makes them think they aren't good enough. They think that once they fail they can never succeed.

Most teens feel as though they don't fit in. The majority of teenagers in high school are learning who they are, and who they want to become. People feel constant pressure from their peers and their family members, and maybe even their friends. A lot of teens have a harder time figuring out who they are because they feel as though they are being judged. Most of the time, they probably are. People have set a high standard for teenagers today as to how they should look, act, feel, etc. If people were nicer to each other and there was less hatred in the world, I think that teens would feel more comfortable expressing who they are. This would cause less stress and worry for people who feel as though they don't fit in.
