The murder of one person is either go to war or to give a young man and a virgin to another tribe. For example when the daughter of Umuofia went to Mbanio and was murdered, and the people had a chance to either go to war, or to avoid it by giving two people as compensation. "'Those sons of wild animals have dared to murder a daughter of Umuofia."' This shows that the Justice system is either to go to war or to send two people as compensation for the other tribe. "An ultimatum was immediately dispatched to Mbaino asking them to choose between war on the one hand, and on the other the offer of a young man and a virgin as compensation."'
Philip, Tommy, Matilda, Megan, Bryce.

Rituals and Traditions of the Igbo Culture

One ritual is when they break the kola nut, alligator pepper and white chalk to pay respect. Also they paint their big toe to also pay respect to the other people and their ancestors. The Igbo tribe holds peace and keeps everyone in line for a week to respect the harvest gods, so they have a good harvest year. "We live in peace with our fellows to honor our great goddess of the earth without whose blessing our crops will not grow"(30). This time of peace is very sacred and important to the Igbo people in order to have a good harvest and feed their families. Anyone who disrespects it ruins a good chance of a good harvest, and they are overall ashamed of and bring dishonor. The Igbo people drink palm wine from the first human head during celebrities funerals. The youngest stands in the middle and has the wine on his left knee. The person who brings the wine tastes it first then goes from the eldest to the youngest.
Ishau, Ethan, Valerie, Chris, Nymir

Family Dynamics of the Igbo Culture

Chase Wurth, Ezra Toll, Javi Coll, James Oh
There many parts of how a family works in the Igbo culture. One part of family dynamics is represented by the wives and the significance they carry. Wives represent power because spending on how many wives a man has, he may have a different amount of power and respect. Another aspect of family dynamics in the Igbo culture is the role of seniority. When wine is drunk at important ceremony's, the men must have drunk 2 or 3 gourds before any of the wives are aloud to drink. Then the wives drink in chronological order of when they were married. Also, when the men are fed their meals, they are served in different courses, and each course is presented by a different wife. Finally, men are able to have the own Obi's where as wives have one, but must look after the children and have a much smaller Obi.
" And when she returned she beat her very heavily. In his anger he had forgotten that it was the Week of Peace."

They are polytheistic, which means they worship several gods. Many people tend to sacrifice animals to Ani, the god of all lands, in exchange for the hope of good crops and prosperous harvests. "The evil you have done can ruin the whole clan. The earth goddess whom you have insulted may refuse to give us her increase, and we should all perish" (18). Another one one of your gods is Chi is your personal god.
