This Book is the story of the Author James Baldwin and his experiences as a black man growing up in Harlem. I personally didn't have very many connections, I haven't been stopped by police, or seen friends or family arrested or anything but I can comprehend the point of view that he is writing from. His point of view is as a young black man and adult is somewhat relatable not with just how some people view people of color as a race.

This book was recommended to me by my parents and they said I should read it because despite what I identify society is going to view as a young black man and that this book would be good to read to see Baldwin's experience and perspective. However I recommend this book to anyone who is an intent reader and will stick through till the end of it. This book took me about 2 months to read, I haven't been reading consistently but chipping away at this book slowly.

I think that this book isn't written like your average book where it's not character's united to find something or a goal. This book is this mans life, and it's about him navigating and trying to comprehend it. You meet characters along the way but most are just a phase in his story some stick through until near the end of the book He says that; All black children are raised to fear their parents punishments and also "white people judging his words and actions". He goes on to write about how his father beat him and how he was discouraged when he told him he wanted to finish school and become a writer. Of course, thought discouraged, he did achieve his goal.
