Social impacts are effecting the aviation industry typically because if the age ranges that are targeted; the grey market. Currently in 2023 post-pandemic, this had inspired a lot of the grey market to indulge in revenge tourism as they are getting the urge to fulfil their bucket lists as they are now allowed to leave the country. Tourists are wanting to do something and see something different and this is blocked almost by the wide use of package holidays which have been around sing post war. Most people have been going on the typical 1-2 week beach holiday and actually want to try something different for once which is aided by specialist holidays where customers have the right to indulge in revenge tourism or dark tourism etc. Typically people are booking more city breaks and long weekends and travel industries have to use this to create statistical data in order to recognise trends and there for promote them in any which way they choose to. An example of this is cruises; although they have been very popular in the grey market it is surprising to say that more families and young people choose to go on cruises in the past 20 years. More modernly, younger people are staying at home meaning that they have more disposable income to be able to afford more holidays which are different from each other.

Although technology is the future of our generations it is also negatively impacting on travel agencies as people will typically look and book for holidays online rather than in stores. this may negatively impact the grey market as many older customers would prefer to book a holiday in store than online as they are unfamiliar with technology and therefor may do something that they are not meant to. Though this is negative technology has some positive impacts such as that electronic payments have now made travelling safer and easier. Not only this but technological advancements have made it so 80% of holidays are now booked online which is helpful as it is purely convenient. Airports now are adding self check-ins in order to reduce the amount of queues although it is unfortunate however it means less jobs for those who are out of work. A negative impact of this is that sometimes devices may not work or people may not understand it which is disappointing. A positive thought is that customers are now able to order their food and drinks at the table during a QR code.

Economic impacts on the aviation industry have been particularly impertinent recently due to many different reasons; for starters due to current high inflation outstripping the wage and benefit increases meaning that more and more people simply do not have the financial stability in order to afford a holiday. Not only this but inflation has hit its highest level in over 40 years which has since lead to extortionate increases in prices of holidays along with essential goods as well as hospitality industries putting up their prices meaning that people have less disposable income. However, as the UK currency has since dropped in value compared to other currencies, this makes travel to the UK from overseas visitors cheaper. Although, this has also lead to an increase in fuel prices from UK airlines as aviation is traveled in USD.

BREXIT has had a distinguishable impact on travel and tourism as it has made holidays that bit more expensive due to the expenses of mobile data roaming, visa and also insurances on holidays. As well as this the length of star will be affected for holiday makers along with business travellers to limit their stay in the EU for no longer than 90 days - if they would like to stay longer they will have to purchase a visa. Not only this but BREXIT has made it so that UK tourists can no longer have the ability to use EU-fast track passport control as well as custom lanes. In addition to this immigration procedures will consequently take longer as UK passport holders will require a stamp in their passport on arrival into the UK. From 2023 it is said that British visitors will even need to register online which is approximately going to cost travellers £7.

Laws and regulations have impacted the travel and tourism industry in a multitude of ways, for instance due to laws and regulations this has allowed minimum wage increase, making labour costs essentially more expensive and cost more to employ those who need jobs which in turn will consequently affect small businesses. Not only this but the laws and regulations have been applied into peoples every day life without them realising, for example the sugar tax. This allows companies who purchase soft drinks that contains sugar however that must pay a tax on each item meaning to cover that tax customers will have to pay more to buy what they want, this is been implemented to deter companies and customers from buying high sugar items to reduce the negative impacts on them. As well as this, package travel regulations is a contract brought in to all travel and tourism businesses to offer customers products and services of a high standard, this includes suppliers otherwise customers are entitled to compensation.

The environment has impacted on the aviation industry in many ways; for instance the local community benefits from local sourcing since it cuts down on food miles and following firms in the travel industry will be seen favourably. Not only this but the whole supply chain is covered by ethical sourcing, which also ensures that the people involved are treated appropriately and paid fairly. subsequently to environmental factors travel companies are under more and more pressure to adopt ecologically friendly practises. Additionally, tourists are increasingly conscious of the environment and prefer to make reservations with businesses who are doing their part to protect the environment.
