In Writing today we were focusing on conjunctions. Conjunctions connect two sentences together adding information. We worked with our partners to think of sentences using the words ‘and’, ‘but’, ‘so’ and ‘or’.

Today was the concluding lesson to our Art sequence learning all about Hannah Hoch. We got very sticky bringing to life our very own collages in the style of Hannah Hoch. It was a lot of fun and we created some fantastic pieces of work!

This week we’ve been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have looked at their properties and had great fun experimenting what shapes we could make towers with and why we were able to make towers with them. We discussed what shapes we couldn’t make a tower with and the properties they have that mean they would make the tower fall.

In Geography, we have began to look at physical and human features. Today, Year 2 took a walk around Alvechuch, seeing what physical and human features we could spot. We saw shops, houses, roads, a pub, the stream, grassed areas, the park with the play equipment just to name a few.

It was lovely to get out of the school grounds and do some learning in our local area. We learnt a lot!

Our DT unit is ‘Food and Nutrition’ exploring what it means to be healthy. Over the last couple of weeks, we have had the opportunity to go up to Alvechurch middle school and use their food technology room to prepare and make our own ‘mini meals’. So far, we’ve enjoyed making a Jam Jar Salad and this week a tortilla quiche.

Today was the last in the block of our ‘What does healthy mean?’ Food and nutrition unit.

We made pitta crisps, chopping the pittas into triangles, making a tomato salsa and putting the pitta crisps into the oven to cook.

We discussed why we need to be healthily, how we can be healthy and what would happen if we didn’t include vegetables in to our diet.

We got the opportunity to try the pitta crisps we had made. They were absolutely delicious!

This half term we have been learning about “Stomp” music. Today we worked in groups to make up a rhythm pattern to play together. We then performed as a class and in our small groups. We used everyday objects such as buckets, bowls and baskets as our instruments, it was very noisy but lots of fun!

This afternoon we made paper hats. We decorated them with wax crayons to make them waterproof. Miss Stocks splashed our hats with water to see if they worked!
