Okonkwo questions the idea of temporary peace during peace week. In the text it says: "He walked back to his obi and awaited Ojiujo's return. And when she returned he beat her very heavily. In his anger he had forgotten it was the Week of Peace. His first two wives ran out in great alarm and plead with him that it was the sacred week. But Okonkwo was not the man to stop beating somebody half-way through, not even for fear of a goddess." (Achebe 30).

Because Okonkwo did not want to stop beating his wife, he didn't want to be viewed as weak. Also overall he is a pretty violent guy, so it makes sense he would question it. He doesn't like peace, even if it's only for a few days

As you can see from the text Okonkwo defies the idea of peace. He is violent, aggressive and agitated which is why he can't even stand the idea of temporary peace, even for a week. And we won't back down from beating someone, even in the fear of punishment from a goddess.
