The overall expenses for college is about $8,500-$21,050 a year. It is important for students and their parents to sit down and go over expenses and talk about who pays for what. The number one thing that is asked is, "Who is paying for tuition?" Once that question is answered, families will be able to break down the categories of expenses and see what is important. If you are staying in a dorm, most students over buy for their first year. - School supplies/textbooks (pencils, notebooks)
- Clothing
- Dorm materials (sheets, body wash)
- Entertainment (movies, mini golf with friends)
- Food
- Gas, car itself, and insurance
- Phone bills
- Activities
- Travel (trips home, spring break)
- Electronics (computer, new chargers)
- Oh no problems (new phone, flat tire, new book bag)
Students and parents should go through the list and see who will be paying for what.  From there, students should set up a budget with the items they will be covering.  Everyone budget will be different depending on what they value the most. The number one thing for filling out applications is look for deadlines. Depending on where you want to attend college, their applications have to be submitted by a certain date. Common dates are in November, December and January. You should begin looking into applications the summer before your senior year of high school. You must PROOFREAD everything.  These documents are very important so make sure you are spelling your address correctly.  One more thing that is important for this process is to get your high school transcripts.  Colleges cannot consider you until they can see your high school transcripts.  Do whatever you have to do to retrieve those. It is important to note that you MUST send your final transcripts to your college of chose after you graduate or you cannot attend. It is important to note that you do not have to do what the results say. It is okay to change a major in the middle of your college career. I advise you to do research and job shadow as many people as possible.

- Having separate notebooks and folders for each class (you can even color coordinate them)
- Write in a different color pen every chapter.  This will help you remember the information faster. 
-  You can write important term words in a different color so they are easy to find
- Set time aside every week for each class to ensure you have time in your busy school for dedicated study time
- Never be scared to reach out to your professors if you are lost or confused on the matter.  Professors have emails and office hours for a reason.
- Refer to your syllabus weekly so you can prepare for the upcoming week.  
-  Posted notes are my best friend, use them
-  Highlight important words or phrases when you read, it helps you remember what you read
-  Some people uses laptops to take notes, but science says you remember information faster when you write it down

Most colleges have intramural sport teams. You need to find what interests you and become involved. There are often posters and boards up around campuses that tell you things that are happening. You can sign up for emails and go to involvement fairs. There are many ways you can reach out and be a part of something. Below is a hobby quiz. Take the quiz and see hobbies you could pick up.
