Week One- Get Real!

Blanchard, talks about servant leadership and the value it brings to relationships. After spending many years in administration then returning to the classroom I had the opportunity to watch different leaders and their styles of leadership. I found myself constantly thinking about how I would have lead differently. Now that I have returned to a leadership role I have had to change my mindset. Michael Pfau talks about how are habits directly impact our success and in a leadership role can impact the outcomes we are trying to achieve.

I'm conscientiously trying to be a servant leader. More importantly, making sure my values and goals directly align with my my staff and more importantly Division core values. Learning to put others first and more importantly trusting staff has helped develop leadership capacity in my building.

My 5 core values have definitely changed over the years ; authority, collaboration, humour, integrity, and loyalty.

In transformational leadership and in my goal to become a servant leader I have really emphasised it is ok to make mistakes! That is part of growth and development. We need to trust each other and that our shared values and goals are the core of our purpose in schools. This means I need to show loyalty and show integrity when mistakes are made. We need to trust each other and be able to laugh together even when we make mistakes. I use to be very much a authoritative leader. Now, I make sure I reflect daily on different leadership styles and leaders I admire. By using reflection I have begun to see others ideas do work! It doesn't always have to be my way. I have become inspired to become a servant leader.
