This Adobe cottage is important to Ernesto, because he sees that the cottage protects him. Like, in page 11, he explains that the thatch roof protects him from the rain. Also, in page 12, he explains that the thatch was waterproof when the thatch becomes thicker. Ernesto feels safe when he is in his home.

The forest is important to Ernesto, because he sees that the forest protects him. And not just him, it protects other people when they take the trail through the forest to Jalcocotan. It explains protection because in page 2, he explains that the forest trees had fenced in the hollow, that looked like a thin, cup that covered the sky for shelter. It also protects the village from the rain, too, also in page 2. And most importantly in page 3, it also protects the people from outsiders.
