This country, the land of samurai and ninja came from has had at least four events that changed it, and in part, the world. On July 14, 1853 a man named Matthew C. Perry arrives in Japan and essentially opens it to global trade. On September 5, 1905 Japan become property of Soviet Russia. On May 3, 1947 Japan became a constitutional monarchy. On December 12, 1956 Japan joined the United Nations. Without these events, I don't think japan would be where it is now.

To compensate, their imports are made up of iron, oil, coal, ore, copper, aluminum, and wood for the industrialized economy.

The worker productivity has risen asa a result of increased use of machinery (capital) per worker, improvement in technology, improved education/skilled labor forces, and improved international trade. Worker productivity is treated by their lowering population.

According to exportjapan.co.uk, the average Japanese citizen spends 80% of their income on consumer goods (GDP per capita-$38900), so based on the statement, Japan has plenty of available consumer goods.

Drew Weyenberg

Japan has a rather high gender-related development index. The GDI values at 0.961. The human development index, as of 2014, is split between males at 0.905 and females at 0.870. The gender gap in Japan has almost closed due to the wide participation of women in education, health, politics, and the work force. Japan ranked 106th in women's economic participation and opportunity, 84th in educational attainment, 42nd in health and survival, and 104th in political empowerment according to a study done by Global World Gap. Women in Japan voted and stood for office for the first time on April 10th 1946. Since then, the political participation has increased dramatically. Many women hold spots in government and it increases every year. The female employee rate has greatly increased also in the past thirty years with a rate of now 63.6%. Despite the strong tradition of women being housewives after marriage, women in Japan have adapted to picking up part-time jobs in attempts to be equal to men. Although 77% of Japanese women makeup the part-time work force, they typically earn 27% less than males doing the same job. The education women are receiving further prove this new found independence among Japanese women. More than half of women are college or university graduates opposed to the little to no educated women fifty years ago. The growing feminist influence on gender roles in Japan portrays the almost equal and growing roles of men and women.
(Camille Byrd)

After World War II, Japan had to come up with a model for development to cease economic failure. During Japan's economic growth period, between post World War II and the end of the Cold War, Japan became the world's second largest economy. Their labor markets are a huge factor toward their development by being one of he most stable in the world with strong unions and permanent employment. Their extremely high labor productivity is what the mainly use for development. They also export lots of consumer goods. Japan is very technologically advanced and educated. It's development is depended on its strong economic system of producing and trading goods.
(Camille Byrd)
