For me this is when all the readers knew Montag is very serious about this and what he wants to do. This is the point in the book where Beatty is talking about why books and such are not needed and how they can just speed up the process.
This is important because it pretty much shows the mind of the people agreeing with getting rid of books and /why/ everyone thinks that getting rid of books is okay.
