- before they can fly in space, they have to undergo hundreds of hours of training 

- split into three main sections 
-  a one-year course of basic training contains scuba diving

- To become a NASA trainee, you are required to be a US citizen, you must pass a strict physical examination, have 20/20 vision, and good blood pressure

- two years of training

- candidates must learn the basics of the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station, also they learn how to be part of a team by flying the NASA T-38 training jets.

- they must learn many things besides science, also medical procedures.

- They will need to be able to talk with the Russian Mission Control Center, so they have to take language classes

The International Space Station is a space station which is inhabited by crews. You can see it from the earth with the naked eye. It has been visited by astronauts, cosmonauts and space tourists from 17 different nations. Currently there are 6 people abroad.  It’s supposed to be landed to Pacific Ocean on 2020s.

-       First attempted mission to mars happened in 1960, by the soviet union, but it was a failure 

-       The first successful mission was in 1964 by the united states 

-       NASA, SpaceX and multiple other organizations are planning on doing human missions to mars, and the first is expected to happen around 2021-2026 

-       Current plans show it to be sent with a crew of 4 to Mars in 2033 

-        First you need relevant experience in school

-        NASA wants its astronauts to have at least bachelor’s degree in engineering, biological science, physical science or mathematics

-        Also, you need at least three years of “related, progressively, responsible, professional experience or at least 1000 hours of pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft

-        You need to have perfect sight, the right blood pressure, and a height between 62 and 75 inches. 

-        You need to be in extremely good shape, because emergency return from space would be expensive

-        There are also physical and psychological tests

WHEN NASA SELECTS YOU:

-        two years of astronaut candidate

o   they also became qualified scuba divers, they do military water survival training, undergo swimming tests, are exposed to high and low atmospheric pressures, so flights in the “vomit comet” and get media and Russian language training among many other things

-        After you graduate, you are not assigned to a flight for years 

 

ONCE AN ASTRONAUT IS SELECTED FOR A FLIGHT:

-        the training takes another couple of years
