The family aims to make a living for themselves in Arkansas. The family does this by starting a farm. When she comes to visit, Soonja is welcomed with a frosty attitude from David, but she soon suffers a stroke, which causes her to lose her memories, motor abilities, and speech. While Jacob was initially adamant about selling just Korean goods, Soonja eventually taught him about the Minari plant and demonstrated the benefits of producing it. However, his farm and barn life take precedence over his marriage to Monica, which is quickly broken after they both agree to divorce not long after. Soonja, on the other hand, accidently sets fire to the farm, leaving them with death and grief.
