Growing up mainly following American educational curriculum, I thought all foreigners that are white, blonde and tall are all Americans and did not realizing they could be either British, Iris, Australians or Germans. Funny also when they comment " You speak very good English". Most of them go amazed when I explained that English is the main medium of teaching in all subjects in school and I only speak my dialect to my elders because my previous alma matter, they impose fines to students if you speak the dialect in school. And so my college friends who are now based in America often ask " Do you have koala in your backyard, are you not scared of these sharks or crocodile?' where in fact it would similarly mean the same if I ask the "DO you have grizzly bear in your backyard? or are you not scared of these mass gun shooting?" https://padlet.com/katharinetaylor1/jywz90fqzsg/wish/374528715 Everybody has a story to tell, and as the new generation would say there are now four sides of the story, his version, her version, the truth and the SCREENSHOT.

Some people ask what I like most about nursing- and I've always said 'people's stories'- It's such an important part of understanding who someone is, and what makes them who they are. I feel like nursing is such a privileged job to be able to listen to so many different peoples stories. https://padlet.com/katharinetaylor1/jywz90fqzsg/wish/374677864 2019-08-15 03:21:50 UTC https://padlet.com/katharinetaylor1/jywz90fqzsg/wish/374677864 Learned perceptions https://padlet.com/katharinetaylor1/jywz90fqzsg/wish/374712530 I can relate to what Chimamanda is talking about, I was always told that the aboriginals, living in the remote communities where uneducated, alcoholics, substance abuses and dole recipients who wouldn't work in an iron lung, so you can imagine my surprise when I started working in one of these communities to find a very proud community with a very mixed culture, as many different tribes are forced to live together, there are a lot of dole recipients but any jobs available are filled by the locals, there was a lot of alcohol and some staff wouldn't turn up to work for days, after they where paid, but when they did turn up they worked as hard as anybody else and I formed close friendships with some of them, I loved hearing their stories and telling them mine, I loved my time out with them and I can't wait to go rural remote nursing again.

I wish I could do public speaking similar to what the speaker has done, I love the way she speaks English but in the way she grew up with it, the way she understood and learn to speak the language and use the language to convey the topic she is passionate about.
