"Fake Love" contains deep and emotional lyrics. In the lines
"For you, I could pretend I was happy when I was sad
....I could pretend like I was strong when I was hurt" RM explains how he would try so hard to keep the relationship content. He does this so the relationship can keep going and that he will withstand anything he needs to in order for the relationship to stay the way it is. He is trying to persuade himself that he's okay, but in reality he's not.
“I’m so sick of this fake love, fake love, fake love” Because RM is putting up a facade, they are not satisfied with themselves. RM is tired of being “fake” and wants to be true to themselves.
“I even became quite unsure of who I was

Try babbling into the mirror, who the hell are you?” RM has changed so much to the point where he doesn’t even recognize himself. When he looks into the mirror and sees his reflection, that’s when he noticed how much he’s changed. RM is annoyed or angered at what he’s become. He’s unable to recognize himself and has come a long way from who he used to be.

In the song "Fake Love" by BTS, the speaker is RM. BTS is a South Korean boy band that includes the members Jungkook, Jimin, V, Jin, J-Hope, RM, and Suga. RM is the leader of the group and he writes and produces a lot of their songs. The song explains that if a love isn't true, then it won't last. RM stated in an interview with Teen Vogue that "If your love isn't true, it won't last forever. The love could be person to person, or between me and myself." So, RM is warning others to be careful and thoughtful of how they act or are acting in a relationship. I believe RM is referring to the relationship with himself throughout the song. RM has gone through changes and has made mistakes in his past. Now that he has worked through them and realized his mistakes; he can explain how unhappy he was with himself within that point of his life. RM tried so hard to be the someone he wasn't, thus it resulted in such unhappiness. He has now recognized his mistakes and has tried to correct them by moving forward. RM is now trying to be the best he can be by being himself.
His audience is people in toxic relationships. BTS wants to remind people that they should be true to themselves in order to achieve happiness. How can one learn to love someone else without loving themselves first? However, this song isn't only exclusive to a partner-to-partner relationship; there are instances where people do fight against themselves. Not everybody is perfect, and I believe BTS is trying to prove that too. BTS wants their fans or audience to be themselves because even when you pretend to be something/someone you are not, it will not end well. RM is trying to tell those in toxic relationships that it's not worth changing. Because in the end, the relationship won't end well, and you would have already changed so much that you'll be unhappy with yourself. The tone of "Fake Love" is depressing. BTS uses dark colors and filters to show sadness throughout the video. Their dark hair colors and choice of outfits also fit this tone.

In the lines "Try to erase myself and make me your doll" the word "doll" refers to RM because he feels as if he can't control how he acts. He has to repaint his image in order to satisfy the relationship. So, he has to play pretend because if he acts as himself it will ruin the relationship. Since RM is talking about a battle with himself, in the lines "make me your doll" RM feels controlled by his other "persona" or the fake image he created. “Look at me, even I gave up on myself

Even you can’t understand me” RM has given away all that he could for the relationship and is left with nothing. He’s tried so hard to change that he is at a point where even his partner is getting confused. He has become so unrecognizable that he isn’t even himself anymore. He tries to create a feeling of guilt when he says “Look at me.” He wants the partner to acknowledge the fact that he changed for them; he blames his partner for the cause of his outcome. “I grew a flower that can’t be bloomed in a dream that can’t come true," these lines represent how this relationship was doomed from the start.

RM is trying to tell those in toxic relationships that a love that isn't true is not going to last. Forcing yourself to be someone you are not for your relationship with not last and will only cause you harm in the end. RM uses pathos and ethos in the lyrics so that we can truly understand why it's so bad to continue on this path. In the video you can notice that BTS uses appeals like imagery and symbolism to give their audience a visual understanding. After analyzing the lyrics to "Fake Love" I can say that they are effective because it gets the point across. RM has gone through the change himself, so, now he can share his thoughts with others. After analyzing the video I can say that it was also effective because of its variety of symbolism. Fans have claimed that BTS has helped them with their mental health and gave them a feeling of reassurance (Scott).
