Energy is the capability for something to do work. An example of energy is simply walking or riding a bike. There are two main sides of energy, kinetic energy and potential energy. Kinetic energy is when you are currently using the energy. An example of this type of energy is swimming. Swimming is kinetic energy as you are using energy to do that action in the moment. On the other hand, potential energy is when you store energy for later use. Furthermore, an example of this is the food in your pantry. Since you are not going to eat all the food right now, you are saving the food/energy for later to give to your body. Under those energy branches are 6 forms of energy, electrical, radiant/light, chemical, mechanical, sound, and thermal energy.

Energy can change. Evidence to support this answer is when you eat something and then go ride your bike, the energy will go from chemical to mechanical energy. This is because when you digest your food that is chemical energy and when you are biking that is mechanical energy because you are doing work. Another reason why energy can change is because of the words called 'energy transformation.' Energy transformation allows for energy to change from one form to another. Although energy can change forms, no energy is being created or destroyed.

Q3) Can an object transfer more than one type of energy?

An object can transfer multiple types of energy. This is first possible because of the words called 'energy transfer.' Energy transfer is when energy transfers from one location to another. For example, if you are about to light a fire with a match, a match contains potential thermal, light, and chemical energy. Once you light that match and make a fire, that energy has now transferred and transformed into kinetic thermal, light, and chemical energy. That energy then transfers again to the oxygen through the gas that was produced by the fire. The following evidence proves the point that an object can transfer multiple forms of energy.

Q4) How does energy flow in a system?

Energy flows through a system through the sun and organisms. For example, the sun is the main energy source, allowing plants to go through photosynthesis and produce their own energy. Then come animals and humans that eat those plants, and they gain the energy that those plants have gathered through the sun. Next, there comes more animals and humans that eat those animals and then they gain the energy of the animal they just ate. Finally, the cycle goes on and on. Looking at the upper photo the girl’s body is digesting the food she ate and has chemical energy. That food all runs back to the sun. All in all, all that we eat can be seen to originate from the sun which is how energy flows through a system.

Energy waste happens when energy is produced but is not used or not used efficiently. An example of this is a lightbulb. When the bulb is turned on, it emits electrical, light, and thermal energy. Thermal energy would be the waste energy in this case as it is difficult to use this form of energy to do work. It is also energy waste as when we turn on a light, most of the time we are looking for light and not heat.

Nuclear energy is energy that is released during nuclear fusion or fission. Nuclear energy is also stored within the nucleus of an atom. This energy keeps the subatomic particles of the atom's nucleus together. Nuclear fission is when an atom and its nucleus split. This causes nuclear energy to be released. Nuclear fusion, on the other hand, is when atomic nuclei combine which causes nuclear energy to release.

Gravitational energy is a type of potential energy that is stored in an object because of its height above the Earth. The amount of gravitational energy relies on the mass of the object, the strength of gravity, and the distance from the center of gravity. This type of energy is additionally capable of being converted into other forms of energy. An example of gravitational energy is a marker being held above a table. The marker held above the table will have more gravitational energy than a marker that is on the table instead.

Elastic energy is mechanical potential energy that is stored in a configuration of a material or physical system. This type of energy occurs when an object is temporarily compressed, stretched, or deformed in any type of way. Once in these conditions, the object can additionally release elastic energy by returning to its original form and shape. The amount of elastic energy an object has is determined on the elastic properties of the object and the degree of deformation. An example of elastic energy is a stretched rubber band as it is out of its original form and shape.
