Insight and Ideas: This article was one of the first published about the court case and ruling, and it seems like before the explosion of rage from women about the victim blaming, that the Irish Examiner seemed to agree with the ruling. He is clearly missing the point that while the underwear was not appropriate to be used as evidence, it was the fact that the defense attorney claimed that the style of the underwear meant that the 'innocent man' was absolved of his guilt because the 17 year old girl was clearly looking for sex. The real scandal comes from when defendants lawyer used the victims underwear as 'evidence', showing it to the court and being quoited saying about the victim that "Does the evidence out-rule the possibility that she was attracted to the defendant and was open to meeting someone and being with someone? You have to look at the way she was dressed. She was wearing a thong with a lace front.”(Irish Examiner, 2018). This victim blaming has people up in arms about the ruling, and are using the hashtag #ThisIsNotConsent and posting pictures of their underwear to show support to the victim and bring awareness to this toxic victim blaming.

Insight and Ideas: shows a picture of Ciara Kelly, one of the reporters who covered the story, holding up two sets of underwear, one is a lacy thong that says 'your fault', while the other is a fairly conservative pair of underwear that says 'his fault'. In the image Ciara is trying to decided which to choose because of comments that the teenager couldn't have been raped because she was wearing a lacy thong and was clearly looking for sex.
