In addition to core coursework, this specialization provides training in the design, construction, testing, and management of business application systems and databases.

Statistical Science!

This pdf has the requirements and approved electives for the Statistical Science specialization, along with example plans for completing in 1, 2, 3, or 4 years.

In addition to the core coursework, this specialization will provide you with a background in Bayesian Data Analysis, using Mixed Models for analysis of complex design, and analyzing multivariate responses.

How to choose?

Both specializations will train you in valuable skills for working with and learning from data. When deciding, I encourage you to consider how you enjoy your time. Working with complex data structures and creating data processing pipelines will be more common for a data scientist, thus programming skills will be vital! Building and evaluating models and drawing conclusions will be more of a focus for a statistician. Thus, familiarity with various modeling strategies and skills for translating research questions into analysis plans will be key.

If you want to specialize your degree even more, look for outside elective courses offered by CSU (or CSU online). If they are quantitative in nature and would support your MAS degree, feel free to email them to your academic advisor, Kirsten, for approval in your degree completion plan.
