In the cartoon A Sleeping Sickness, it shows a chaotic turf war between several nations, 'cutting up Africa' from below the man asleep on it. It seems tense and hostile, with keep out signs everywhere and nations arguing with each other. Coupled with the fact that those who tried to resist were killed off like bugs, as seen in From the Cape to Cairo and the image about a last stand. There was also a massive and highly destructive cultural shift in the people as shown by the two images of the children, first showing them in their traditional wear, and the second showing them in pants and a shirt. And then there were the maps. The first map shows a nation with few divisions, few borders. The second, only about two hundred years older, shows many more borders, a continent chopped to pieces by the European powers.
